Need a New Driver?
It is almost July and the golf season is just about in full swing (no pun intended).
By now you have a good amount of rounds under your belt, but that old driver you have just is not cutting it.
You want a little more distance and forgiveness off the tee so you decide to treat yourself to a driver.
Now, first thought might be to go with a driver that claims to be epic, or hits the ball further than any on the market.
Or maybe even the 1, (pun intended) that has a bunch of wins of tour this year.
Those are fine, and you may like them.
But when looking at a new driver you can’t overlook the amazing work the people over at MyGolfSpy did with their 2017 Most Wanted driver testing.
For people who don’t know what MyGolfSpy is a company that does unbiased consumer reports.
Here is their mission statement from their site:
“Our mission is to inform and protect the golf consumer. We want you to get the most out of your money, time and performance. That means providing you with reviews you can trust, as well as honest reporting on the latest issues affecting the game today.”
Basically they run purely on donation and tell the truth, even if the results show that a 10-dollar dozen of Top Flite balls are the best on the market… they aren’t though.
So back to that new driver. This years MyGolfSpy Most Wanted driver was the Srixon Z 765.
Srixon? The ball company? The hat Keegan Bradley wears? Weird.
Actually this driver packs a punch.
The handicap range for the test was from +2-16 and the average ball went around 250 yards carry.
Combine that with high ball speed and low spin numbers, you got yourself a sweet driver.
This just goes to show you don’t need sliding weights, neon colors or dramatic names to be the best.
Next time you’re getting fit for a driver, don’t overlook the Srixon Z 765.
