Schauffele wins Greenbrier Classic for first PGA Tour victory
Two young TaylorMade staffers won events this past weekend, Xander Schauffele win came at the PGA Tour Greenbrier Classic and Jon Rahm, the likely PGA Tour rookie of the year, was victorious at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open on the European Tour.
Schauffele birdied the par-3 18th on the Greenbrier Resort’s TPC Old White Course to beat Robert Streb by one stroke and Sebastian Munoz and Jamie Lovemark by two strokes. Munoz had lead after each of the first three rounds. The 23-year old Tour Schauffele is a Tour rookie and this win gave him not only the trophy and a check for over $1.2 million but a spot in the Open Championship in two weeks and the PGA Championship in August.
The Greenbrier’s Old White Course was rebuilt after the recording setting floods of 2016 which destroyed hundreds of homes and business in the surrounding area.
Rahm who won the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in January blitzed the Irish Open field for a six shot victory and a controversy over the interpretation of the Rules of Golf regarding his replacement of his ball after marking it. The young Spaniard play this season has pushed his Las Vegas odds to with the Open at 12 to 1 tied with Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson behind Rory McIlroy at 10 to 1.
